Of a Solar plant along the Expressway....

Residents of Maharashtra can expect a higher quantum of green power coming their way in the next few months. The state may also be able to pump into its grid the 1,000 MW that it is currently unable to generate because of shortage of coal. The Union power ministry recently requested the state government to set up a solar power plant along the Mumbai-Pune expressway. It also asked Coal India to provide coal from the mines located near the state. Union power and coal minster Piyush Goyal in a meeting with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis assured all support to the state to set up the solar farm.
Now that the BJP is in power, the project has come as an indication that the state will toe the line of Gujarat, where solar power plants have come up in a big way.
A senior Mantralaya official said talks were on with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to identify the stretch of the expressway along w hich solar photovoltaic plates could be planted.
In the state, 85% of generation is from thermal power plants.
