Sony Xperia Z3 - Full Specifications|Cons & Pros

Is it any wonder that Sony is already refreshing its flagship smartphone? Only six months after the launch of Xperia Z2 comes from its successor, the Xperia Z3. Sony hopes it will help him gain ground on the market notoriously fickle Android superphone, and knows that there are customers who only buy the larger model at any given time, for whom money is not object.

Sony sees as the Xperia Z3 is not so different from its predecessor that anyone who bought a Xperia Z2 (Journal | Photos) will have regrets. However, those in the market for a new high-end phone today will see a brand new Sony against the now common Samsung Galaxy S5 (Journal | Photos) and HTC One (M8) (Revue | Images). Also, if the company can do something new at the moment, why should he expect an artificial cycle?

The differences between each successive new model Xperia Z Series from Sony have been pretty minor, but you can see a clear improvement over time. The owners of the Z2 can not no reason to upgrade, but those who bought the Xperia Z and Z1 are tempted. The strategy is a gamble, but it worked for the last two years.

Look and feel

The Sony Xperia Z3 is the biggest change since the first Sony Xperia Z was made ??last year and a half. hard rectangular shape, has turned into a more organic system with curved sides and angles replacing chiseled edges first.

The distinctive purple option Sony also happily reached the end of the line - the new Xperia Z3 is still available in white and black, but the color is now signing Copper Gold. One of our gripes with the Z2 was that it was exactly like its predecessors, and Sony took the message to heart.

The Z3 is thinner than the Z2 hair, but more sensitive are the new elegant and shutters inset buttons on each side that are hidden (and protect) the various slots and ports. The metal trim around the edges is divided into corners, and Sony says that this design is intended to make the Z3 resistant to damage if dropped - corners can absorb some impact, thus reducing the likelihood that the front or rear glass breaking.

Note from dust and liquid resistance was upgraded to IP68 which means that this phone should be able to survive up to 30 minutes in fresh water up to 1.5 meters deep. However, as before, that means you have to deal with a sensitive area and recessed Micro

USB port each time you need to load the Z3. The battery is sealed in and of course all ports and controls are around the edges.
Signature of the round power button Sony is on the right edge, but it is not centered or the height of an inch. The volume rocker is just below, and the two are incredibly difficult to achieve. Sony is one of the few companies still equip their phones with dedicated buttons on the unit, and we found it easy to hold and Z3 to use as a camera. Card slots Nano-SIM and microSD are under a hatch on the upp er right corner, and the Micro-USB port is behind a flap on the left side of the magnetic dock connector that we have seen on previous devices of the series Z. It still looks as if a patch was put out on one side to the dock connector, but even that is less shocking than it was on the Z2.

As pointed out in a post of sarcastic social media, Sony has managed to make the thin Z3 and improve his camera without using a protruding lens. The surface of the rear window is actually so good that we found the Z3 slipped around tables when we tried to use it. Xperia Z3 is tall and narrow like its predecessor, making it one of the great comfortable phones on the market. this is certainly easier to keep than the Z2 was due to new curves. If that's still too much for you though, there is the very interesting Xperia Z3 Compact to consider, which has most of the same features but has a smaller screen a nd the body.

specifications

There has been no significant progress that will change in the material core smartphone in the last six months, and the bowels of the Z3 are substantially the same as those of his predecessor. The quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC 801 is slightly faster at 2.5 GHz instead to 2.3 GHz, but the Adreno 330 GPU is the same.

Sony could have chosen to go with a larger screen and higher resolution, but he claims that he deliberately chose not to so that the battery life would not suffer. 1080x1920 is already crazy enough for a smartphone, so we have no problem with that. If you type whose bragging rights are more important than the utility, you should take a look at LG and Samsung the latest launches.

You get 16GB of storage and 3GB of RAM. The microSD slot accepts cards up to 128GB of capacity. Sony launches Wi-Fi b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS. Sony said that LTE is supported on the Indian bands.

Sony has focused on improvements that are not really explained by the spec sheet. The screen, camera, battery and audio processing systems have been slightly modified and improved. The company says it has applied the technology of its TV, games and audio divisions, and the screen has named entities "X-reality" and "Live Color LED" that improve the clarity and color reproduction. Sony says that the Z3 was "brilliant display of world leader in high-end smartphones" and it is certainly light.

Xperia Z3 has another unique feature to boast of - not only the device claim to MP3 "from Upsample" and AAC audio tracks, it can also natively supports high-resolution audio files in a variety of formats, which can be purchased online. Digital noise cancellation is integrated, but it requires a specific Sony headphones to work.

Finally, there is a little that links with PlayStation 4 console Sony - Xperia Z3 is the first smartphone to support remote PS4 Play, which means you can wirelessly stream your video game console for the PS4 phone using your home Wi-Fi. You'll still have to use a Dualshock controller PS4 but you can buy an adapter that allows you to take the Z3 on it so that you can stand and play like you are using a portable console.

software

Like the skin is Android Sony or hate it. We love how it is easy to move and fix things as we like, but is really a bit too heavy and overdone. We find we always try to disable all the little animations, like changing color vortex of default "live" wallpaper. It might not feel like bloating due to the ultra-fast hardware, but it is still useless distracting.

Nothing has really changed in the software between the Xperia Z2 and Z3. There are still a significant number of non-removable preload applications, many of them related to Sony branded properties and most utterly useless. The first home screen has a giant spam

"What's new" widget which not only promotes Sony support could you not be interested, but also consum es a small amount of data to hold expenses thumbnails. The dock icon on the home screens is filled with Google and Sony app shortcuts rather than the more clear messaging, e-mail or browser, which we think is ridiculous.

Sony has not stuck in just as many features as Samsung and LG tend to do - there is no split screen feature (if you can start small "floating" application of maneuver for the application) and there are very few shortcuts and enhancements that make the biggest feature manageable. For example, we really missed the ability to awaken the Z3 by double-clicking the screen, especially since the power button is tiny.

Two applications are distinguished - Lifelog and sketch Sony. Lifelog allows you to track health data and fitness such as the amount of exercise you had in a day, but differ s from other health apps smartphone manufacturers by also including a timestamp for other related phone activities such as listening to music, take pictures and play games. Logging happens constantly in the background and work better if you use one (or more) of the portable Sony products, but we do not really see the appeal of the concept. Sketch the other hand is a fun little application that allows you to draw with different brushes and put stupid stickers or text captions on pictures.

Some users might find other applications for Sony useful, but they are easy to overlook. PartyShare lets you stream photos and live create a playlist of music that friends (with compatible phones Xperia) can help. News Socialife shows third-bound party supplies including those of popular news, sports, entertainment and tech websites. You can add your own URL or RSS browse presets by category. Smart Con nect, despite its name, allows you to create profiles to automate actions when you plug in a charger or headphones, or if you do not want to be disturbed at night.

There is also the line, Kobo, AVG Anti-Virus, Facebook, Evernote, Kingsoft Office, Bigflix, Google Drive, LinkedIn and Wisepilot Navigation. Applications include brand Sony Sony Select, What's New, TrackID, Xperia supportive care, Sony Music, Liv Sport, Sony Liv, Xperia and Xperia Lounge Update Center.

camera

The hardware and software have been given a discount. Sony made ??a bold thesis that the Z3 "best camera in the world and camcorder in a smartphone ", which is apparently based on the actual market research subjective. Unit up to ISO 12800 for low-light shots, and there is a sensor 1 / 2.3 inches with exclusive processing technology from Sony. The lens is a wide angle of 25 mm one, for plans that include more subject matter. Video recording is up to 4K, but 1080p is the default. Even the pictures are taken at 8 megapixel resolution by default, but you can speed 20.7 megapixel full whenever you want.

Following "applications camera" Sony has increased. In addition to Auto and Manual modes of upper base, you now have his picture that allows you to take still pictures annotated with ambient sound; Face In, which allows you to overlay your own face and the other in a scene; Multi camera, which allows you to synchronize and merge streams with effects in split screen with several Xperia phones; and AR

Fun, which allows you to scribble notes and put stickers on a stage, then change your position so that the bits of AR seem floating in the air in 3D. We have not been able to try the multi camera, but we found that AR Fun was not half as good as it seemed demonstration videos from Sony. The application was very fussy let us create annotations, often we said we were going too fast even when we were perfectly still, and crashed once or twice during testing. When he worked, however, the effect was extremely fun. The application seems to be the calculation of surfaces and distance in real time, for example if we could throw virtual paint and it would be whether to land on the ground or on projections wall. There were shadows, even things we learned floating in the air.

When it comes to the quality of the real image, Xperia Z3 is surprisingly good. It is a bit shaky a t times, especially in automatic mode and at night. Most of the photos came out with incredible detail and impressive color reproduction. Textures are generally clear and detailed, but there was some noise in photos with clear background of distant subjects. We managed to take some decent shots in difficult conditions such as a dimly lit room with small lights.

The front camera has also performed well, and the photos were used in most conditions. There was a lot more noise and blur in photos taken with the rear camera, but we were still quite satisfied. Recorded video to 4K was very impressive, but again regularly was aged HD video. We found the records to be just a little dark. Be prepared for massive file sizes though - about 120 MB for 15 seconds.

The main problem we had with the camera is tha t we kept seeing automatic warnings that the device was too hot and the application could close. We began to see the message within seconds of opening the camera application outside on two different (but very sunny) days - that does not say much for the ability of the Z3 to be useful in India.

performance

With specs like these, it would have been impossible for the phone to lag or slouch around, and fortunately, it did not. we really had any problems with anything we tried to do. HD videos play perfectly and so does 3D games. The dual front-firing speakers were very powerful and rich - was minimal distortion at high volumes and subtle details made ??only come through.

The results of benchmark tests were on par with those of the Xperia Z2 - the two shots exchanged between the tests, but the difference was not always minor and the Z3 was above most. The Z3 and Z2 29.9fps and 29.4fps respectively marked in GFXbench and Quadrant scores were 19 210 and 18 392 Interestingly, both phones were defeated by the smallest Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (Journal | Photos), which benefit 34.9fps in GFXbench (thanks to its lower resolution screen) and 21,100 across Quadrant. We can not wait to see what the new Xperia Z3 Compact has in store for us.

Sony has not been silent on improving the battery in the Z3, and we were rewarded with an impressive 13 hours, 27 minutes our video loop test - and that's without any of the battery saving features of the company on. This easily leads to two full days reasonably heavy use on a single charge.

verdict

The Z3 may be newer than his contemporaries, but the downside of this is that its price has not had time to settle. At Rs. 51,990, the Z3 is much more expensive than the Galaxy S5 Samsung, HTC One (M8) and LG G3. You really wonder whether it is worth the premium over the Z2 which now costs about as much as these phones. In terms of price alone, it will probably more of a competitor to the iPhone 6, as and when it launches in India.

The Sony Xperia Z3 has many merits, but the owners of the Z1 and Z2 should not even be in a hurry to upgrade. These phones are still very competitive. However, if you're in the market for a new high-end smartphone at the moment and the last and greatest will, you will be very happy with th e Z3. There is also the Z3 Covenant to consider, which should provide the same experience in a small package and at a lower price.

Sony did manage to improve a phone that was already pretty impressive. We enjoyed using the Z3, but we feel that The price and pace of Sony, it will be easier and more sensitive for many people to stay a little behind.
